I have made a career of avoiding pencil portraits of anything but the other half made me do it ... I'm rather pleased he did as it has led to a spate of lucrative commissions so it is now officially a part time job for me :O)
I think that looks awesome! Portraits have always bothered me to do, because of the added challenge of finding likeness in the work. I am successful sometimes, but the folks that do it consistently are amazing to me. Thanks for posting this.
thanks guys - about 20 hours i guess - i find shading cathartic and mesmerising, i probably could do it quicker if i stopped daydreaming, lol. i learned that an electric eraser is your best friend for forming ripples!

Nicely rendered and good use of values. I like how the background trees are softer, it makes him and his catch pop.
thanks beth.
I'm trying to talk people into a smaller size with a cheaper price as A3 like this takes more time than I can spare right now.
