Hey, Sugar Frosted People. My name is Meng (it's also Jerrold Connors but I go by Meng, my family and nick-name). It's my second post and I ought to have introduced myself first. So here's a self-portrait:
It's a quick sketch I did of myself this morning following meeting Sergio Aragonés at Wondercon this weekend. That's how I caricature myself, as an alligator. I figured an all animal universe would save me the trouble of caricaturing, but it's come with its own problems. Namely, do I designate animals to personalities? How do I draw pets? Where do I buy my steaks?
So I draw cartoons. I earned a reputation in children's educational media through some early web work and I'm currently working as Art Director with the multimedia group at the Lawrence Hall of Science at UC Berkeley. I've done some self-publishing but still the majority of my work stays on my drawing table and I want to change that. So I'm pleased to be able to share this space with all the talent I see on SFG.
Here's a link to Alligator Boogaloo (my "company") and my sketch blog, the Mengshui.
By the way, Sergio Aragonés was great but I was starstruck (?!) and came over like a huge idiot. Afterwards (of course) I thought of all the things I could have said to him and was mad at myself so this is my retort when my wife tried to console me.
