first steps in children book illustration

It's one of my dreams to one day be published in a children book. I now made the first step by creating a book dummy for a children book contest, in collaboration with the author of the story. This is a first glimpse of my contest entry. See more on the PotatoMammaDesign blog.

Suggestions and comments for my next children illustration project? Anything you'd do differently? Looking forward to reading your comments,

Astrid,
Okay I'll reply. I used to teach illustration and I would always implore my students to comment, in some way or another. So here I go. If I sound short it's only because I can't type so I try to economize and choose words I can spell.
I like your work and you color pallette. It's very diffrenet from what I do. At first look a suggestion is to be mindfull of anatomy or the structure of your figures. On most of the ones in this posted image the lower legs seem to bow a bit too much the wrong way. Also, wathc and control your line weights. It seem there are thicker lines on things that should be lighter, gossamer. One exapmle of the kind of contol I'm thinking of that comes to mind is Ear Oliver Hurst. Google him, he was good, had a really nice disciplined brush line.
You have such a nice way with character that maybe you could do something with a group of similar characters that are slightly different, like students or something. "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" comes to mind. Anyway I've about typed to the edn of my patience with making typos and corrections. You have a nice website by the way.
