My Kit Cat Clock

This illustration is of my Kit Cat Clock hanging in my studio. My grandmother had one of these when I was growing up and I remember being hypnotised by those roving eyes. So since I am so into time and clocks, I just had to have one. It was only a matter of time before I drew it.

jim i always love the texture and seemling carefree drawing quality of your work. is this all traditional media? there has to be some photoshop involved right?

Yup. There's photoshop for texture and white highlights on this one. I multiplied the original drawing onto whater texture background I came up with. I then added white highlights and whatever color I wanted to. Then it gets sent into painter for final touch ups.

And yes I am carefree when I sketch and doodle. It's fun that my doodles become the final illustration in many cases.

There should be a real version of this Kit Cat Clock. I have a perfect picture of this guy striking midnight with twelve scratchy alley cat meows and his eyes turning to fingernail moons. Great piece!

I love it! My grandmother had a clock just like this in her kitchen. I too was mesmerized by the roving eyes and swinging tail. Nice composition and execution of style.
