Ride 'Em Cowgirl!

If by "Old" you mean the 1950's and if by "West" you mean western Canada then here you go! I did this two-page spread for Yes Mag a couple of years ago for their "Horse Science" issue. All the extra space on the sides was for the copious text labeling and describing the parts of the horse.
I think I went a little too realistic with the horse, or too cartoony with the girl, oh well.
Pencil with colours in Photoshop.

Glen, Very nice I love the texture. To my eyes, the horse and girl match up well, the technique seems to merge the two styles along with the saturated colors.
The only odd thing I think I see is the horses right rear leg. Seems a bit truncated. Of course I coud be wrong. What did you use to do this illustration?

Hey Stan - you're right! I never noticed it before but the foreshortening on the rear right leg is way off. I guess that's why I usually stick to the cartoonier stuff!
As far as what I used, do you mean media or for reference? I had a bunch of photo ref for the horse and kit but the girl and background was all me. Mechanical pencil (H) on 17" x 22" Hammermill laser paper, scanned in and coloured ( using my Wacom 9" X 12' tablet ) in Photoshop.
Does that cover the bases?
