Adman Khashoggi

Danny Gregory and I hung out this weekend. Of course, his son Jack Tea was there too. Danny wanted to see if we could make a little film about what it was like in advertising 25 years ago when we started out together and just how much things have changed. He set up a few cameras and let them roll while we talked to each other. We were both drawing while we talked. That's not something I'm good at. I can only do one or the other. So I have to admit I was concentrating more on talking than on my drawing. Danny had a few pictures he had printed out laying on the table. I took a couple to draw while we spoke. You can see some writings on my page. They were my little cheat sheet notes for our talk. When we were done talking, I worked hard to turn my page into a cool little drawing. Jack Tea said it looked like a James Jean drawing. That made me feel good. I spend every waking hour trying to get my sketches to look like his. Who knew all it took was me not really paying attention to my drawing while I did it. The best part of the day was when Danny and I began to roll film, his wife Patti came in from walking the dogs. She started talking and Danny stopped her. "Couldn't she see we were making an IMPORTANT film." That made me laugh. In fact, I'm still laughing thinking about it today. Important wasn't the first thing that came to my mind. Dumb, stupid, silly were more like it. The film is in the early stages. It's a work in progress.
