This piece was created for a pretty open brief which was looking for art work which was around the 'botanical' theme. As I'm not used to drawing plants as such, I picked up a gardening guide and had a browse. However, the illustration wouldn't have really been my style without adding some sneaky characters - and that's where the peeping birds came in. I like to draw people in to take a closer look at my work by adding lots of hidden details... allowing them to go on a kind of 'creative treasure hunt'!
Unlike some of my other brighter works I decided to go for more muted colours to add a vintage twist and not distract from the simplicity of the drawing style.
This, along with some varients and more abstract version of the piece were sumbitted to a gallery for their 'botanical exhibition'... They should be letting us know soon as to whether the work has been selected for the show! Fingers crossed!
