Noob using unfamiliar terminology

Hi, I'm Johann. I am flattered to be in such incredible, talented company.
I was trained as a printmaker, only a few hundred years after Rembrandt. I had to leave behind my etching press when we left the southern tip of Africa and moved to the Great Canadian Prairies. Since then I have been trying to make images that resemble etchings, posing as an illustrator.
I used to teach at university (History of Art, Printmaking, Drawing) I miss it a lot.
I worked in the Motion Picture (movies... I use the bigger term to sound more imposing) and Television industry but decided that I wanted to do more of my own work and not have to visualise other persons ideas.
I paint with real gooey acrylics on canvas and also make images digitally using Painter and a wonderful invention, a Wacom Cintiq. I have an eponymous website. I also have a blog which I tend to quite carefully. I work from home and welcome any feedback on my work. Working in a vacuum isnt at all fun.
Accompanying image is a large painting I am making for a tattoo shop. Its pure fun. I wanted to make something that would seem at home in a tattoo place, yet also tongue in cheek. Its not quite done yet and this is only a detail.
