B for barbarian

B for barbarian is the next of my weekly illos. These are done in a short space of time which will hopefully benefit me in the future.

Alien

On top of my usual work load I want to produce a character illustration a week. Hopefully in a years time you'll see a vast improvement from this piece!

Sketch

Here is a quick sketch I did the other day at home on my moleskine (always with me). There is something dark and sad about this character, but I like it.

Freddy the Dragon

Here is my latest venture on Cinema 4D - this is a personal project, just a bit of fun. Amazing how you can render your illustration from several angles, this is the prefered angle.

T-shirt Illustration

This is an illustration I was ask to do for a t-shirt. I don't play in a band, but will wear one of them when printed.

Closet Monster

Once again I had a bit of a play with Cinema 4D. I am getting more used to this program but still only know 1% of it ..... ok, the illustration is a bit rough on the edges, but a lot of fun to do.

Here I created that closet monster that I know exist in our bedroom (and by the way, I also took that picture on the wall)

Portrait series - Mr. Devil

This is the first of a series of portrait-like character I'm creating on Cinema 4D.

I ask them to pose for a second in front of a backdrop - here I was lucky enough to get this really cool looking Devil, and he even gave me his autograph.

Robots for a PR agency

Strangely enough I seem to find myself doing loads of robot work lately without realizing it. This are some character illustrations a PR agency in London commissioned me to do, each one of the characters was going to be used by their staff for their business cards, putting a bit of fun in PR.

Sexy Man

I've just recently started to teach myself Cinema 4D on my spare time. This is my first 'non-metallic' character after doing a robot and a lamp. I'm happy to say it follows a bit the style of some of my other illustrations done in photoshop. And by the way, it's not been molded on my persona. I've got a veeeery long way before I can use the program properly but one has to start somewhere no?

Sourman

Name: Sourman

Why: Becuase he is such a sour puss and he hates all things sweet including people and food. But he has been know to work together with fellow super villain The Sweetener*.

How: As you can probably guess Sourman was once a normal kid but one day he drank a glass of lemonade made from radioactive lemons and the rest they say is history.

Super Power: One of his favourite tricks is to turn sweet juicy oranges sour by using his Sournator weapon.

*get it, sweet & sour :D

Hi All

Greetings!

This is my first blog on the SFG site and I am very happy to join all the talented people here!

I am an ex-pat South African now living and working in Sydney, Australia. I dabble in the black arts of illustration, storyboarding and concept work. Mostly I sip coffee and do crossword puzzles at home until the urge/need to draw something for fun/a living becomes too strong to resist.
