Gemma Robinson Illustrates For Educause Review

US based Educause Review commissioned me to illustrate three stories in their March/April issue. Educause Review is an award-winning magazine which takes a broad look at current developments and trends in information technology and how they may affect colleges and universities. All three stories were in some way linked to the impact technology has on higher education.

Disaggregated Accreditation by Gemma Robinson

The first story was about accreditation and the need to view higher education institutions as fragments rather than a whole in our rapidly changing world.

We Love E-Books by Gemma Robinson

The second story was titled 'We Love E-Books!' and focused on the need to increase the availability of e-books at libraries.  You can read the story here.

Gateway To The Universe by Gemma Robinson

The third story was about the disruptiveness of technology within higher education which, if embraced, can expand the classroom beyond the limits of four walls to encompass the whole known universe. Full story here.

Barkles 503 Page

This is a commissioned illustration I did for a new social networking company called Barkles. It's a place to share your opinions and get rewarded. The site is launching soon and this illustration is for their 503 error page. It's the page that tells the user that the web site's server is simply not available at the moment. This is usually due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. So their idea was to have their mascot tearing the page to expose the server.

Robots for a PR agency

Strangely enough I seem to find myself doing loads of robot work lately without realizing it. This are some character illustrations a PR agency in London commissioned me to do, each one of the characters was going to be used by their staff for their business cards, putting a bit of fun in PR.

Old Warrior

Had a ton of fun with this one. Based on the Lone Wolf and Cub characters (minus Cub). I really like the way this turned out and it was not towards the end until I realized this would look good with an old film reel look. The trick was finding the right texture to get that old film feel. Fortunately, I realized I had one tucked away in my files.

Hey Everybody!

Just wanted to drop in and introduce myself: My name is Dane Ault. I'm a relative newb to the illustration world, and I hope to learn a lot as part of this group of awesome people.
As a way of introduction, here's the newest illo that I've finished.

6 Decades of Awesome Hair Styles

My Father recently celebrated his sixtieth birthday. So for this special occasion I created the above image showing off some of his awesome hair styles over the last six decades. In the image there are a number of hidden meanings and symbols which family members picked up on.

I got the image printed by Giclee Prints on some nice canvas and it looked really nice. I'll always impressed by the quality of their print, the colours come out amazingly beautiful.

We all had a laugh and the present was a success.

Chessington World of Adventures Map Illustration

I recently completed the 2009 visitor's site map for the Chessington World of Adventures theme park. It was pretty labour intensive & challenging involving site visits & lots of photo reference. It had to be an accurate representation of the park & rides, while being easy to use as navigation for the guests.
