It's Been a While So Here's Somethin' New...

So I went to Anime North 2009 last weekend... and it was AWESOME. Anime Cons are, apparantly, where you meet all the nicest people. Everyone was so friendly and they all made it a truly great experience. Even for an anime/con n00b like me! I'm especially glad I enjoyed myself this time, because I am slated to be heading back to another anime convention in July of this year. A buddy of mine and I are putting together a book about zombies that will be featuring my illustrative talents! After visiting the con, I also got in my head the brilliant idea of "hey! Why don't I draw and sell my own illustrations at the table!?" So I'm splitting the table cost and will be putting out fresh illustrations and selling prints for all of Saturday and Sunday, July 11th and 12th. Above is a picture I did up quick last week of Bill from Left4Dead. Who wouldn't want a Bill print!?
Hope ya digs!

Stamps

The set

Postmark

Die cut first day cover

I went back to college this year to top up my skills and am doing the last year of a BA (Hons) in Communication Design and have just sat back after producing this set of stamps for the RSA design directions brief in assoc with the Royal Mail.

The brief was to attract teens and young adults as buyers and collectors and as they were looking for innovation in all aspects of the design they are actually printed on nice and shiny biodegradable acetate. I'm up against probably 80 - 90 other students from round the country... the award is £3000 - about $6000 - and a load of great publicity for the winner!

(All the images except the photo element are hand drawn and no vectors were hurt in the making of this production)

Ghost O' Sparta...

Here is a silly drawing of a big silly Spartan goon.
Hope your all doing well and, are having a very happy holiday.

Video Game Art: Space Siege Ship Design

The entire game takes place on the ship called the I.S.C.S. Armstrong. As you can tell from the scale image of the Eiffel tower, it's huge! This is a ship designed to be a deep space colonization ship. I had in mind that a person could be born and die on this ship without ever stepping foot on a planet surface. The atrium centered at the 'eye' of the ship could hold the Eiffel Tower inside it if you chopped the antennae off...:)

Video Game Art: Early Space Siege Character Sketches

I don't know about you - I love me some iterative art. I enjoy seeing process so I figured I'd share some very early sketches I did for an earlier project.

None of these will be used in the final game however they did contribute to the later designs. In the interest of saving gallery space for others here I left the rest on my blog...

Caught w/hand in the digital cookie jar

This is an illo I did for Salon mag back in 1999 about video games and violence. An artist by name of Patrick Hildebrandt posted a comment here because he saw the illo on the Joystiq blog, with a link to the original Salon page! It was clearly a case of unauthorized use by the blog. Fellow SFGer John Reddinger saw the post and forwarded it to me. I sent Joystiq a stern, but educational email, and the image was soon taken down. Thanks, John!
