SFG Pencil Sketches

Here we go, a pencil sketch. over at my blog I kind of explain the idea behind this. Even though it's not much of one. But it did get me sketching! Thank the Sugary Frosted Gods!

WIP: Why I don't paint

I started messing around in Photoshop this evening painting a sketch of the pop star Pink I posted here earlier. I'm normally a vector guy, so I'd be really curious to hear any thoughts from some painters out there on my progress (or lack thereof).

Thanks in advance.

Aborted Picture book...

These sketches are from an aborted kids book from about 10 years ago. I was bummed and sorry it didn't happen. Oh well.

Action Heroes

There's dancing in the streets; it's a caricature conga and I'm going to join the back of the line. Kick out those heels!

This was for an article about ageing action heroes, with the return of Rocky, Die Hard and Indiana Jones imminent. My rough pencil sketches of the heads, though the final painted version can be found here.

SFG: Pink

Here's a pencil sketch I did last night of the pop star Pink. I think this shows the influence the great caricature artists Jan Obdebeeck and Mort Drucker have on me.

My website.

Ewan McGregor

This started off as a pencil sketch but I decided to take it a bit further and add some texture and colour.

The overlayed texture hints to one of Ewan's movies. Any guesses?

More bloggy goodness can be found here

Sketchy McSketchington

Here's a couple of sketches I recently did. I think we should share our sketches more often. It's been fun looking at how other people work.

SFG: Pencil Sketch

Spiked!

Had a little story to illustrate in minutes and I submitted this. Both the Art Director and the Ed shot it down! Bummer... I had a vague idea it might a bit crude though.

I don't work in pencil too much but here's a pencil sketch I did in the bookstore recently.

Here's a sketch I made from a photo for a friend in charcoal. It reminds me of the Gerber baby.

Glad to be here!

Hey everybody, Glen Mullaly here to say hi-ho and how-do-you-do! Happy to have been invited to SFG and so I thought I'd start off with a few words of introduction ( and exploitation ) by steering you to my wacky website - glenmullaly.com as well as my furshlugginer Flickr site - which contains not only my own work but selected choice cuts of vintage Grade A illustration from my favourite kid's books, magazines and records from the past. Stop by and say hi!

For my first post I thought I'd share some ( mechanical ) pencil roughs for a website illo I did a couple of months ago. We start ( above ) with a small thumbnail rough ( a little over 3" high ). Next up ( below ) the almost finished pencil, about 7".

Up last, the finished illustration as a stand-alone. To see Frozen Pea Girl earning her keep click here.

Whew! I've been so busy working on paid jobs and my book, that I haven't had much time to relax and just draw for fun. Last night, though, after I got a ton of work finished, I decided to blow off some steam by drawing my favorite thing: sexy women. I'm not sure what the SFG rules are about showing bare breasts, so here's a tame one. You can see the rest over on my LiveJournal.

SFG:pencil sketches

I will not be participating in this week's challenge. My pencil sketches fall into 3 categories.
1. They get inked over and erased.
2. They get thrown away.
3. They suck.

So, rather than just sitting this week out, I will post a drawing I did for no specific reason.

I pass this guy, in the train station tunnel between 15th and 16th Streets, on my way to work. He is there most mornings, in his tux, playing an unusual assortment of songs on his flute. The one he plays most often... "Hava Nagila".

He has no trouble getting coffee. I also pass four Dunkin Donuts, in the underground train tunnel, in a block and a half.
