SFG Challenge Extension!
Due to the large number of you expressing concern regarding the timing of this particular challenge, and the willingness to participate given a bit more time, I've decided (with Mr. Dotz's blessing) to extend the challenge out for another two weeks.
The new final date for submission is Thursday, May 8th, 2014 at 12:00 am PST.
Hopefully this will give all of you who just haven't had the time to take part, an opportunity to participate-we hope to see a lot of new submissions with this new two week extension.
Remember, all of the information regarding the challenge can be found on the original post here:
http://sugarfrostedgoodness.blogspot.com/2014/04/a-brand-new-sfg-challenge.html
If you have any questions, contact me directly, or leave a comment on this post.

New New book out - The Shadow Gate
Dear all,
I am very excited to share with you my latest book release:
Madeline Mercier might be a fanciful girl who builds castles in the air, but when she finds the Shadow Gate, everything changes. Her home, Eclipse Island, will never be the same, and neither will she.
"The Shadow Gate," written by Myra McEntire, is now published and available on-line at StoryBird web-site.
This book is part of StoryBird's new long format books, in which new chapters of the story will be released periodically. Publisher Weekly just features an article about this exciting new digital publishing platform.
Hope you will enjoy The Shadow Gate!!

It's a dog eat dog world...
I drew this one up for the 2014 Utah Addy's Call for Entries Posters! You can see some of the process here! |
Lord Chumley's Kitten Chow
Something I came up with a few years ago for a video game company I used to work for. I had to stock an entire gas station environment with product art, and Warren Dotz's Ad Boy was my main inspiration for the items. It's an awesome resource, and I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store with his new titles!

A Brand New SFG Challenge!
Read carefully for your chance to WIN!
Five years ago, during a conversation with Warren Dotz, the author of the highly successful book, Meet Mr. Product: The Art of the Advertising Character, we struck upon an idea to throw a contest, to which the winner would receive a copy of Mr. Dotz's newest book at the time, Ad Boy: Vintage Advertising with Character. The response to that contest was overwhelming, and the winners were announced one week later.
Recently, I was contacted by Mr. Dotz once again, eager to challenge our motley crew of Sugar Frosted illustrators for the chance to win some more swag! Who doesn't like swag?!
This time around the grand prize winner will win a copy of each of Mr. Dotz's brand new publications -
Dog Food for Thought
and
Cat Food for Thought
In his own words, Mr. Dotz introduces these great new books:
I've recently had an opportunity to pour over both of these great books myself, and let me tell you, they are fantastic! You're going to love them! Chock full of the best dog and cat inspired label art out there, a must have for any lover of vintage advertising or illustration!
Interested? Here are the official rules and how to enter!
1.) Simply post your very own original vintage inspired label art (40's to 70's) with a dog or cat theme.
2.) Tag your entry with one of two labels: Dog Food for Thought or Cat Food for Thought. (This is very important so that your entry(s) will be sure to be considered appropriately for the challenge.)
Each piece labelled appropriately will be reviewed, and you may enter as many submissions as you like.
The challenge will end on Thursday, April 24th, 2014 at 12:00 am PST.
UPDATE: The challenge has been extended by two weeks! The new final date for submission is Thursday, May 8th, 2014 at 12:00 am PST.
Again, the illustrator with the winning submission will receive a copy of both Dog Food for Thought, and Cat Food for Thought.
This contest is open to members of the Sugar Frosted Goodness website only.
At the end of the challenge period, Mr. Dotz will contact me with his choice for the grand prize, which I will then announce on SFG. I will contact the winner for mailing info etc.
Have fun with it!

In his own words, Mr. Dotz introduces these great new books:
“My interest now takes me to the super cute and quirky world of Dog and Cat food label art. I own the worlds largest collection of dog and cat food labels from the 40’-70’s. I selected the best and boldest and paired them with a modern design and insightful quotes and contemporary observations about dogs and cats (and their owners.) So these are also gift books. Pet food label art as a book has never been done before!”

Sketchbook people live in a cafe this month
Some of my sketchbook characters decided to spend the month in a wonderful cafe called "Ninas Café Klatsch" here in Hamm, Germany. I took them there last night so they can watch Ninas guests having delicious cupcakes and soups for the next 4 weeks.
