Kid At Swimming Pool

Well, I was supposed to wait to post this on Friday for my Friday sketch thing I previously mentioned, but I can be somewhat impatient. Also, it doesn't make sense to wait till Friday to post a sketch when daily warm-up sketches are a part of my work routine. So, I'm going to dump the whole Friday sketch thing and just post like I normally do. Beats waiting around for Friday to post anything.
This was another idea suggested on Twitter for the Friday sketch. Kids at Swimming pool. I could have drawn lots of Kids at a swimming pool, but this is the image that popped in my head when I read the sketch suggestion. And I was going to add a caption, but I thought in the end it did not need one.
Sketched and inked in my sketchbook. Inked with my Pentel Pocket Brush Pen.

Christine Marie Larsen: Bad Medicine and stories

This image is a part of a series I've been working on over the past few months featuring this round-headed character and a white cat. I received an email a few days ago from a kindergarten teacher who had stumbled across one of the images on the internet. She wrote to ask if she could use the series for a classroom assignment for her kids. Their task is to write the story that these images illustrate and to come up with one more picture to add to the series. She managed to find all the other examples of illustrations with a white cat in them on my site and included those. Of course I said yes, since I can't wait to hear what the five-year-olds have to say about what's happening in these images. I should be getting scans of their stories and images when the project is done and will share them.

Here's a flickr set of the images: White Cat Story Set

Cards for Kids

Here's a rapid-fire illustration/logo job I did for a charity event benefiting kids with cancer. This one is a little bit Russell Benfanti, a little Bob Staake, and a whole lot of what you'll get out of me with no pencil sketch or pre-conceived ideas in my head. This whole thing took me about three hours, start to finish.

In the Night Garden Artwork...

Got Kids? Then you must have seen this great show... My Daughter just loves it. This painting is for her bedroom. I gotta say, it was wonderful getting stuck in to some old fashioned drawing and painting. This has been the first 'real' illustration I have started since we arrived in New Zealand... too long, I know, too long... In case you are wondering what I mean by real... I have been using a wacom drawing tablet and Corel Painter for most of my work over the years and as I did most of my work on the dining room table, there just has not been the room to get all my paints and pencils out! Now I have my new studio and it is fantastic - In a real happy place...

Innocent

Of course they are. However, I'm sure Mr Bear, if he had a heart and a brain, would protest otherwise.

Robots Cook!

Well, here we are again. This week’s addition to my weekly ABC book project is C is for Cook. I had some debate with my wife on what sort of cook I should be doing. I even briefly flirted with the idea of changing the letter C to Chop and doing a robot sushi chef, but then I started thinking about depicting “hey, kids, it’s fun to play with knives," and decided it was best to return to my original idea. As always, I invite you to check out my regularly updated blog Robot Alphabet to track my progress on my book. You can also check out my portfolio site and other blog here.

Cold weather

Up here in Duluth, MN, aka Frostbite Falls, we've been waking up to -15, -20, even -30 degree temps since last friday. This is the piece I've been working on lately.
I've got my Wacom tablet to keep me warm.
