Another Demon!

Just an afterthought....

Hella

Danny turned me on to the work of Ronald Searle. A great old time illustrator. There is one book by him in particular that Danny covets. It's called, "Paris sketchbook." I found a used one online so I bought it. It's a first edition, 1958. I noticed the person who originally bought it had signed their name very prominately on the front page. The name was strange so I googled it. Hella Freud Bernays. Turns out she is Sigmund Freud's niece. I think she translated books for a living. The internet is cool. Check out this cool little movie of me. Click here.

SFG: Demon Child

This little guy may look sweet and innocent but he really makes Damien looks like a boy scout. Enjoy.

Angels & Demons

So, at first glance he's all cute and cuddly, your basic fantasical 'angel'... but look a little closer and you see, he's been a bad, bad boy.
This illo was originally created for the theme "Smitten" over at Illustration Friday. I wanted to approach the meaning from a slightly different angle - to smite, past tense: smitten. Traditionally the unicorn is smitten with the maiden, then out come the king's men and strike him down and take all his sugar frosted goodness... but in this case, he's taken them out before they could touch him. ;)

Nintendo

Uhmmmm...was I the guy who suggested the Nintendo
topic? I did work on it but I was all over the place.
I had some Toad art and some various Mario things.
Pirahna was starting to happen as well a Ba-Bomb and a few others. I
just couldn't seem to land where I wanted which
surprised me seeing how much I wanted to explore this
topic.

Of all the Nintendo games out there, the ones in
Mario's world are my favorites. I almost have the same
feeling for these characters that I do for comic strip
characters I have followed. They are more than just
game pieces. I guess because you interact with them and they
keep showing up in new games with different storylines
and the personalities develop and then all of a sudden
you realize that you kinda know them. But all that
aside, the art is what really sucked me in. The
colorful cartoony worlds with all the fun and imaginative characters
inspire me. It's funny how many weird and different
places you can find yourself getting inspiration from.

Cars

Riding in cars. I'm not crazy about riding in the back seat of a car with anyone. I get a closed in feeling and I don't like it but I can do it. If the car is large and roomy I don't have a problem with it at all. I just like a lot of window to look out of.
This was a quick sketch I did of Steve, our driver when we went to Kansas City on business a few weeks ago. My hand was a bit shaky; trying to draw in the back seat of a car is no easy feat.

Stumble

If you've ever seen a cool website and then tried to find it later on and couldn't remember how to find it again then Stumbleupon is for you. You need to have firefox as your browser. Go to stumbleupon and download it. With one click of a button you can surf categories like art, illustration and photography. It searches instantly for cool stuff. It is very addictive. When you land on a site you want to remember just hold down control and click and it saves a photo and the url to your own little stumbleupon library. You can visit my pages here. I use the thing all the time. It's a great place to hide away all the discoveries I make online.

Brain tentacles

A portrait of my nephew for his 13th birthday. The idea was to integrate his interests and hobbies into the writhing tentacle mass that is his hair.

Green Inspired Poster

'Evergreen - Click Image to View Larger Format

I was asked to design a poster for an art show in Mexico called 'DO2'. I had been thinking a lot about the environment and green related topics the past two days after reading an article titled 'Plastic Ocean'. I was inspired to create art that had a green theme to it. I decided to play off the tribal tattoo look but instead of being hard core I gave it a subtle foliage flair while limiting my color palette to greens.

I'd love to get this printed some day on recycled paper using soy inks to really push the whole green aspect of it. I think that would be really cool.

SFG: Angels and Demons

Here's my "angels and demons"

There is really no explanation needed, as I really had no thought process towards the end result.
But, I like it.
