Pierre Bezier

Pierre Bezier AKA "The French Curve."

Not sure if anyone has ever illustrated Pierre Bezier using his name sake bezier curves in a vector illustration? But I figured it would be an appropriate solution for a book I'm working on called "Vector Basic Training."

Smart

Here is an illustration I've just finished for a project for Smart Car - could that be the Iceland's volcano? ;)

Mail Me Art Project

Hey all, I wanted to take a moment to bring this to your attention. The Mail Me Art Project, headed up by my buddy Darren Di Lieto is very cool. Check it out! - Jeff

"Mail Me Art: Medium Without a Message is the follow-up to the successful 2008 Mail Me Art: Going Postal. We are proud to announce we have over 700 new pieces of mail art. Medium Without a Message is be an amazing collection of envelopes and boxes from around the world decorated by some of today’s most talented illustrators and artists. What makes the work special is that every single piece of art was sent through the postal system, exposed and on view as regular mail. At the end of this month all of the work will be on display at the London Mail Me Art exhibition.

How can you help support the project and become part of it? Well... The running costs for the project are currently at around £6000 ($9120). We’re hoping to recoup most of that by selling the new book and we’re also hoping to make the artists lots of money by selling their work at the exhibition! We’ve just finished the book and we got as many of the mail artists into the book as possible in some way or another! So please help us recoup some of the costs by making a pledge and supporting the project! In return for a pledge we're sending people copies of the new book. We've also got some really cool artwork up for grabs from the likes of Dan May & Jon Burgerman! Please check out the site for more details - http://mailmeart.com/going-postal/pledge/"

Star Wars Chibi: Storm Trooper and Dewback

Well, that's it folks. This is my final piece for the StarWars themed Chibi's. It's been a blast and I really need to go see all of the original episodes all over again.

Hope you've enjoyed them as much as I have.

On to the next Chibi theme!

The Avengers Icons Set 1

I've created 4 custom icons of the super hero team The Avengers in commemoration of the upcoming live film. The first set features Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Nick Fury and Hawkeye. All of the icons have been made for both Mac OSX and Windows computers and I've included an iContainer in case you have a copy of Candy Bar ;)
This is the first set with another set on it's way featuring Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor plus a few extras. Hit the download link below to get your hands on them.

Today's take is on the famous Boba Fett. This time around, I inked this in Manga Studio. I'm a bit pressed for time to ink it with the brush pen.

Star Wars Chibi: Greedo (And The Avengers?!)

This one was a request. And I'm actually happy it was made because I didn't think the character would actually come out so cute. When posing this one, I immediately thought of giving him a similar pose like the one I used for Han Solo. As a matter of fact, I was going to draw them together side by side, but changed my mind once I saw the way Greedo shaped up.
This weekend I decided to return to icons by designing some new ones. As many of you know, this weekend the Avengers movie was one of the highlights at the comic convention and not only were all of the Actors announced, but so was the Director, Joss Whedon! Well, I was excited. So excited that I decided to dedicate an icon set to the Avengers to celebrate the coming movie.
Now let me be clear about one thing. I was never an Avengers Fan. In fact, I was never an Iron Man fan. The Iron Man movies changed that for me and now I love the character. While I've never collected a singe comic with the Avengers in them, the mention of the movie had me somewhat interested. All of the recent photos of Captain America and Thor spiked that interest to higher levels and now, I am eager to see this movie, especially with Joss behind the Directors seat.
So for the icon set I'm going to concentrate on the classic Avengers, minus Nick Fury and Iron Man, who will both represent more of the movie look. And to wet your appetites, if possible, you know, and you're actually into this whole GUI customization thing as I am, here's a sneak peek at the first 2 Avengers to role out of the icon line, Captain America and The Hulk.
And this is how The First Avenger, Captain America, looks as my Finder replacement icon on my Mac OSX Dock.

Reelin And A Rockin

I was in my dad's shed at his beach house and I noticed all the fishing rods hanging over my head. The intricate mechanisms of the reels drew me in. These were six different ones even though some look like I drew them twice. I like putting a bunch of similar items on a page especially unusual ones. This drawing is a perfect symbol of summer on the east coast. I can remember my dad giving me a deep sea rod and reel for Christmas as a little kid. There was nothing like the clicking sound it made when you were reeling it in. I'm sure I caught a bunch of tuna, striped bass and blue fish with it.

Retribution Pin-Up

I've been helping my buddy Peter Gonzalez with his new project called Retribution, a Western, which he's launching soon under his new Salinas Slugger Studio banner as Editor of the book. I recently offered to do a pin-up for the book since I love westerns. Never really sat down to draw something like this and I must say, it was nothing but a blast to work on. Above are Inks, done in Manga Studio EX and pencils done in Sketchbook Pro.
Find out more about Peter, Salina Slugger Studios and Retribution over at the Facebook page here.

Comic À la carte

Hello! Everyone! I'm very glad to post this page to you to enjoy and to learn how to make great meals and desserts (or all the contrary... :S ) and read a comic at THE SAME TIME!!! This page is a masterpice of art by Juan Caminador, who draw us (the girl with the curls that's me) making a stew. Is spanish, sorry, but is delightful either. You can see much more than this in our blog

Regards! Lucy

Crashland Studio 3.0 Is Here

We've been hard at work on revamping the Crashland Studio website for some time and we're happy to be able to make the changes live today. Go on over and check out the shiny new theme. I've also redrawn our mascot, Rocket Kid, which we'll be using on various ads all across Crashland and non-Crashland books.
For those of you unfamiliar with Crashland Studio, we're basically a virtual studio comprised of 5 Artists. Jamie Cosley, Josh Alves, Tommy Flick, Drew Pocza and myself. Our goal is to provide family friendly art to the masses (although 2 of our studio mates border around the safe PG-13 rating). It's a studio I am proud and honored to be a part of.

Star Wars Chibi: Yoda

Of course I could have done this the easier way and just drawn Yoda by himself. But there was something irresistible about this scene where young Luke is in training to become a Jedi Master. Only in my version, Luke is more happier during his training.

Part of the fun about doing these Chibi's based on Star Wars is the research. You never know what you'll find.

Law And Order

The other day I got an e-mail from someone at the New York Law School. It's located in Tribeca, New York City. Was I in trouble with the law? For once, no. They just built a brand new modern school right next to three of their old buildings. She said they were in the midst of trying to buy artwork for the new space. Their idea was to find affordable artwork of New York for the place. She was not having much luck. Someone told her to try Etsy. She said she typed in the words Brooklyn Bridge and boom, she discovered me. The school ended up buying fifteen of my prints. They should look cool, all framed hanging in a row somewhere. I was asked to do some others of the Tribeca area. Of course, I had to do the school itself. It's very nice inside with lots of modern details. This is the first time this type of thing has happened to me. Can't wait until some hotel chain discovers me and orders a thousand prints. By the way, the law school asked if i would do a mural on one of the huge empty walls they have. Gotta think about that one.

communication

dont know where this came from, i was sitting alone on a patio and just let my pencil do its thing.
originally the respons was: "don't bother, my modem's down"

i think i like it better this way.
and there there is this...

it was going to be a triptic at first
him texting "i love you to her"
her responding
and him getting the text "so what?"

there were other ideas, one of two people sitting on a couch and obvioulsly not talking, i was thinking about how, in my experience anyway, that by the time you really do need to communicate is around the time that things are rapidly approaching the point of no return or, as it were, the end.
its funny how people can talk about nothing, ideas, hypothetics, for two years and then let something supposedly as important as their futures fall apart because...
well i guess because there was nothing real to talk about.

trying to get back into the rhythm of posting on a regular basis...
and running into all sorts of liitle kinks that i have to rework once yet once again...

    Star Wars Chibi: Chewbacca

When approaching the subject of Star Wars, how can anyone possibly forget about the most awesome furry giant teddy bear that is, Chewbacca? I think all of us, as Kids, wanted to have oue own personal Chewbacca who would protect us and be our co-pilots in life. Chewie was awesome and the perfect companion to Han Solo. And even though he spoke in a different language then I did, it wasn't hard to understand him.
So you may be asking, what the heck is Chewie doing in this pic? Well, what else? He's doing the Wookiee Dance. What? You don't know what the wookiee dance is? Shame on you.

    im back

i guess that this, what, relaunch(?) is a sort if breaking of a fast.

i havent really drawn for about two years.

it wasnt intentional, i think that things kept coming up and i fell behind and out of practice.

and im sorry, this blog, sadly or not has been one my greater achievements in life and i abandoned it for... something less, and ultimately a waste of time... more

    Star Wars Chibi: Darth Vader

I haven't watched any of the Star Wars movies in a very long time. But all of these drawings are making me want to go and revisit the originals. Before everything went horribly wrong. any way, here's Chibi Vader. This went somewhere totally different from where I intended i to go. The yo-yo was a last addition which I happened to like much more then my original intention.
Like the previous chibi drawings, sketched in Manga Studio EX and inked traditionally with Pentel Pocket brush Pen.

    Gotta Have a Hook Challenge

Hi all, ol' Duder's got a lot of irons in the fire. Recently I've been participating in an open art challenge put on by WotC art director Jon Schindehette on his blog Art Order. It's been a lot of hard work and a lot of fun. Here is the assignment brief:

    Description
    Setting - A cavern
Characters - A Male Dwarf Fighter and a Hook Horror
Scene - The dwarf has just delivered a mighty smack to the hook horror and knocked it backward through a stalagmite and/or stalactite.
Details: The dwarf is wearing heavy scale mail armor. Wielding a warhammer and a heavy shield.

These are the thumbnails I started with: I chose number 3 as it felt the most dynamic and engaging to me:

Here is the B/W drawing and value study that will serve as the foundation to the final painting:

Next will be the final color phase coming up in the next couple of weeks.
