My interactive picture book!

Originally I illustrated this book back in the late 1990s. I found this video during a search the other day. I was very pleased to see what they did with my art but not so happy about not being consulted or paid for this.
Hey Scholastic... at least throw me a few bones would ya'?

ALFIE Sketch

After I finished up my Phineas and Ferb work for a Monday deadline, I drew this Alfie sketch before I went to bed last night. It was done in about an hour and was easy to draw since Alfie was tired and curled up to sleep. He occassionally kept raising his head to wonder what I was doing while looking at him. It was drawn with the Micron Pens and I used a PITT Brush Marker for his back body hair.

New Cover Art & Album Design: Chateau Fiasco

Album design and illustration for Foster McGinty's new album Chateau Fiasco.

Having designed his first album Peach Red a couple years back. I wanted to continue the evolution of that style on this one, incorporating a similar bizarre and surreal flavor with the same illustrative approach.

The title provided a nice foundation of word play to begin drawing inspiration from. Bringing down the house via a good ol' seafaring cephalopod was where things ultimately ended up. The music was a nice evolution from the first album as well. I definitely recommend checking it out and I hope you dig the cover too.

Honesty Is The Best Policy

The other night Yun and I had dinner with 2 of her friends in Brooklyn. We ate at a nice place called Saul. During dinner I was telling everyone about a story I read in the newspaper. It was about how the Japanese people were finding money and wallets in the debris of the tsunami devastation. No one was keeping it for themselves. They were doing everything in their power to make sure it gets returned to it's rightful owner. Everyone was doing it, not just a majority of folks. The story really moved me. After dinner we all walked out onto the street. In front of the restaurant is a bench to sit on. I looked down and there was a brand new ipad sitting there. Cover and all. I picked it up and looked around. There was no one to be seen. Obviously someone left it by accident. I showed the group and then without hesitation walked into the restaurant and gave it to the maitre d'. I really hope the rightful owner came back and got it. I'm sure in their Manhattan mindset that they were sure it was gone for good. Luckily for them, I think I'm turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so.

Hong Kong Phooey redo

Hongkongphooey1

I'm continuing my series of cartoon/comics redesigns with one of my favorite childhood Saturday morning cartoons. Hong Kong Phooey falls into the long list of Hanna-Barbera's haphazard heroes (Captain Caveman, Blue Falcon and Dynomutt, Jabberjaw, Magilla Gorilla, etc.). I adored most of these ridiculous characters because they taught me not to take this genre TOO seriously. This caused me to make many characters of my own who had paranormal abilities or talents that were more of an obstacle than an attribute (ex. The Brass Lantern: previously developed with A.G. Devitt about a guy who shines light on crime… with his eyes). Someday you will see some examples on this blog you are reading. Someday.

Until then, please enjoy the stuff that inspired me as I bastardize their image. Thanks.

Mr. Burrow illustration

obituaries illustration was drawn of
Bruce Burrow.

PLEASE know that these are drawn with the intent
to honor the reposed and their full lives.
Please forgive me if it offends anyone,
I am in no way ridiculing the reposed.
I am truly inspired by their lives and accomplishments,
so i wanted to illustrate them.
Nothing macabre, no nefarious reason, i'm
drawn to people who have had noted presence in life.

Happy Belated THORSDAY...

Introducing the Letter "Rito"

... from my Super Alphabet series... soon to be a kids alphabet book.

Home Away From Home

Since December I have spent about 5 weeks in Seoul, Korea. I always stay at the Grand Hyatt. Love that joint. There is a grand lobby with a beautiful bar overlooking the entire city of Seoul. It sits in front of 30 foot windows. Very impressive. I'm not much of a fancy boy but I do feel right at home there. Barack Obama stays there when he's in Seoul. In fact as I am writing this, Jimmy Carter is staying in the hotel. There are a lot of secret service dudes at the breakfast area. They all have their earpieces in and eyeball me suspiciously. I don't blame them because I am quite ratty looking. It's fun to go to a fancy hotel and have everyone know you. Just like President Carter, I feel like a celebrity when I'm there.

The God Profile

Thor

Here's a sneak peak at the Marvel version of my previous post. I thought I'd throw The Mighty Thor up here since the live-action interpretation of the Marvel Comic's character is premiering in cinemas soon. If you're interested in checking out some God of Thunder, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't check out Walter Simonson's version of this Asgardian hippie. That's some top-notch comics right there.
